Sharjeel Memon moves NCCIA over social media campaign

KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has approached the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), seeking action against what he described as false, fabricated and malicious allegations circulating on social media linking him and his son, Rawal Memon, to the alleged murder of businessman Mir Raza Ali.

Ali’s body was found in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area a day after he went missing on July 28.

A written complaint was submitted to the deputy director of the NCCIA Karachi Zone on August 9, 2026, through Memon’s lawyer Advocate Syeda Malaika Naqvi, against several social media accounts allegedly involved in spreading defamatory content and damaging the reputation of Memon and his son.

Rawal Memon, who is currently in London on holiday, that he was shocked by the allegations linking him and his father to what he called an inhumane act.

“Those behind the lies must be brought to justice. We do not know the identities of individuals operating various social media accounts, pages and groups. This is an organised smear campaign,” he said.

According to the complaint, several posts, videos and statements began circulating on social media on August 9, alleging that a guesthouse in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, where Raza was allegedly tortured and killed, was owned by Sharjeel Memon.

The complaint also alleged that the posts claimed Rawal Memon left for London shortly after the incident and later moved around with a bodyguard.

The application stated that the online content attempted to create an impression that the medical board investigating the case had been changed “overnight” and accused Memon and his political party of protecting those allegedly involved and obstructing the police investigation.

The complainant said similar claims regarding the guesthouse ownership and Rawal’s travel appeared in nearly identical wording across at least four different social media pages, suggesting a coordinated online campaign rather than isolated posts.

The complaint requested the NCCIA to identify those behind the accounts through modern technical and forensic methods and investigate the origin of the alleged content.

It also sought a forensic audit of the social media accounts, including IP logs, device details, SIM registration records and other relevant data to trace the individuals responsible.

Memon’s application urged the cybercrime agency to take immediate notice, launch a formal inquiry and conduct an independent investigation into the matter.
