Christopher Nolan’s epic film “The Odyssey” is inspiring a new wave of travel interest as fans around the world look to explore the real life locations that brought the ancient story to the big screen.

The blockbuster movie, based on Homer’s legendary Greek epic, was filmed across stunning destinations in Greece, Italy, Morocco, Scotland and Iceland. The locations, which were transformed into ancient cities, mythical islands and dramatic landscapes, are now attracting visitors who want to experience the places featured in the film.

The growing interest comes after “The Odyssey” became one of Nolan’s biggest box office successes, earning more than $1.1 billion worldwide after its release. The film’s popularity has encouraged viewers to search for the real places connected to the story, including the legendary city of Troy and the homeland of the hero Odysseus.

A recent travel analysis showed a sharp increase in online searches for Troy after the film’s release. Many viewers also searched whether Homer’s famous city was a real location that could still be visited today.

For travelers inspired by the movie, several filming locations offer a chance to explore history, nature and mythology.

Voidokilia Beach in Greece, located in the southwestern Peloponnese region, is known for its unique shape and clear waters. The coastline was featured in “The Odyssey” as part of the film’s ancient Greek setting.

Nestor’s Cave, situated above Voidokilia Beach, was used for scenes featuring Polyphemus, the Cyclops from the legendary tale, visitors can reach the cave through a hiking trail with rocky and steep sections.

Favignana in Sicily, Italy, represented Ithaca, the mythical home of Odysseus in the film. The island attracts visitors with its beautiful beaches, clear waters and Mediterranean charm.

Ait Ben Haddou in Morocco, a UNESCO World heritage site, appeared as ancient Troy in “The Odyssey.” The historic village is known for its traditional architecture and desert landscape.

Findlater Castle in Scotland’s northeast coast served as a dramatic filming location. The medieval ruins overlooking the Moray Firth offer visitors a chance to explore Scotland’s rich history and scenic beauty.
