TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has said the defence agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye does not pose a threat to Iran.
Speaking at a media briefing, Baghaei said the United States was responsible for insecurity in the Middle East and urged Gulf countries not to allow Washington to use their territories for attacks against Iran.
He said the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened if there was no interference from a third party. However, he added that any agreement with Oman regarding the strait does not guarantee the security of maritime traffic.
Baghaei said the United States was not part of the discussions between Iran and Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
He added that Iran was not currently engaged in direct talks with Washington but was exchanging messages through mediators. He said dialogue with the US would not resume until violations of an interim agreement were halted.
Reiterating Iran’s position, Baghaei said the defence agreement between Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan was not directed against Iran and did not represent a threat to the country.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement signed with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye remains open to regional countries that support its principles, while officials emphasized that the pact is designed only for defense and regional stability.
Dar said the agreement is not aimed at any country and focuses on strengthening cooperation, security and peace among participating nations.
The statement came a day after Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Egypt could potentially join the agreement after completing necessary technical arrangements.
