Trump says Biden-era policies won’t return, blames illegal immigration for job losses

Washington: In a rare address to the nation, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday addressed the nation, outlining what he described as major achievements of his administration and sharply distancing himself from the policies of his predecessor.

In his speech, Trump said the policies of former President Joe Biden would not be reimplemented, arguing that the country “did not need legislation, it needed a new president.” He claimed that illegal immigration into the United States had been stopped and insisted that undocumented migrants would not be allowed to enter the country “under any circumstances.”

Trump said he had received a mandate to eradicate corruption and asserted that his administration’s accomplishments within a year were unmatched. “America has gone from the worst to the best,” Trump said, crediting his leadership for economic and security gains.

On the economy, Trump claimed that Americans’ wages had increased during his tenure and that prices of food, beverages, and other goods were rapidly declining. He also said inflation was falling quickly and that trillions of dollars in investment had flowed into the U.S. economy, attributing many of these developments to tariffs imposed by his administration.

Trump highlighted national security and law enforcement efforts, stating that drug smuggling through land and sea routes had been reduced by 94% and that the United States now possessed “the world’s most powerful military.”

On foreign policy, the president made a series of sweeping claims, including that his administration had stopped eight wars in ten months, destroyed Iran’s nuclear threat, and ended the Gaza war, establishing peace “for the first time in 3,000 years.” He also said his government had ensured the release of hostages, “alive or dead,” and brought them back home.

Concluding his address, Trump reiterated that tariffs had played a key role in strengthening the national economy and framed his presidency as a decisive break from past leadership, saying the changes achieved were the result of executive action rather than new legislation.
