WASHINGTON:  US President Donald Trump has issued a strong statement on social media, directing the US Navy to take action against Iranian vessels allegedly involved in laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

In his post, Trump claimed that Iranian small boats were placing mines in the vital shipping route and instructed the US Navy to respond decisively.

He reportedly said that all Iranian vessels engaging in such activities should be targeted without hesitation.

Trump further stated that Iranian naval forces had already suffered significant losses, claiming that “159 Iranian naval ships” had been sent to the seabed. He also said clearance operations to remove mines from the Strait of Hormuz were currently underway.

The president emphasized that the process of mine clearance should be accelerated, calling for “three times faster” operational response.

He also warned that Iranian naval boats, like other vessels involved, would be “sent to the bottom of the sea” According to his statement, Trump urged the U.S. Navy to fully implement his orders without delay or hesitation.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions surrounding maritime security in one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.
