Noah Kahan turned his sold-out Rose Bowl concert on Saturday, August 15, into a bigger moment than expected, bringing Chappell Roan out for a surprise performance of her song California in front of what he told the crowd was the largest show in Rose Bowl history.
The Los Angeles audience reportedly erupted at the collaboration between the two artists.
Before performing, Roan took a moment to publicly thank Kahan for standing up for her during a difficult stretch of press scrutiny earlier this year.
In March, Roan had a heated encounter with paparazzi and autograph resellers in Paris, turning her own camera on the group and saying she felt “disregarded as a human”, a moment that divided fans online.
Kahan came to her defense at the time, posting on Instagram that the people involved were “scummy,” “manipulative” and “parasitic,” and urging fans not to feel bad for them.
The onstage reunion capped a full-circle moment built on that public show of support.
