Washington says next steps depend on Iran’s official response.

WASHINGTON: White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday that the United States is currently awaiting Iran’s response on the possibility of negotiations adding that President Donald Trump has not set any deadline for a ceasefire or diplomatic agreement.

Addressing a detailed press briefing Leavitt outlined Washington’s current position on Iran, stating that although a ceasefire framework remains in place the U.S. military operation “Economic Fury” is still fully active and ongoing without any pause.

She further clarified that existing military pressure and naval blockade operations against Iran continue to be enforced at full capacity. According to her there has been no reduction in these measures, which remain a key component of U.S. strategy in the region.

Leavitt said President Trump has shown willingness to consider diplomatic flexibility and engagement with Iran, but emphasized that the United States will not compromise on its core security and strategic conditions. She stressed that these conditions are considered essential for maintaining both regional stability and broader international security.

The press secretary also highlighted that Washington expects Iran to hand over enriched uranium as part of any meaningful progress toward negotiations. She noted that Iranian leadership is currently facing internal divisions, and the United States is waiting for a unified and clear response before moving forward.

In response to questions regarding timelines, Leavitt made it clear that President Trump has not imposed any deadline for either a ceasefire or diplomatic talks. She said the administration will continue to monitor developments closely and announce its next steps based on evolving circumstances.

She also addressed recent maritime developments, stating that Iran’s reported seizure of two vessels has not been formally classified as a violation of the ceasefire agreement. However, she added that President Trump remains satisfied with the effectiveness and impact of the ongoing naval blockade strategy.

U.S. officials reiterated that Iran has already been informed of Washington’s conditions for engagement. The administration is now awaiting Tehran’s official response, which will determine the future direction of negotiations and policy decisions.
