Pakistan Navy has marked a major milestone in its maritime modernization programme as the first Hangor-class submarine, PNS/M Hangor, arrived at Karachi Port, where it was received with a ceremonial naval welcome.
According to the Pakistan Navy’s Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR), the arrival was celebrated with full naval honours, including a ceremonial salute by cadets of the Pakistan Naval Academy and a fly-past by PN Z9EC helicopters, highlighting the significance of the occasion.
A reception ceremony was held at the Pakistan Navy Dockyard, where Commander Pakistan Fleet Vice Admiral Abdul Munib attended as chief guest alongside senior officers, personnel, and families of crew members.
The newly inducted submarine is equipped with advanced combat systems, modern sensors, Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology, and enhanced stealth capabilities, significantly boosting Pakistan Navy’s underwater operational strength.
The arrival of PNS/M Hangor is being seen as a key step forward in strengthening Pakistan’s naval defence capabilities and reflects deepening strategic cooperation between Pakistan and China in the defence sector.
The submarine was earlier commissioned in April during a ceremony in Sanya, China, which was attended by President Asif Ali Zardari as chief guest and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, marking a significant milestone in bilateral defence collaboration.

President Zardari had described the commissioning as a historic development for Pakistan’s maritime defence posture, reaffirming the country’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and economic lifelines.
According to ISPR, Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf highlighted evolving maritime security challenges and stressed the importance of modern capabilities in protecting sea lines of communication and national interests.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defence Forces, and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir also congratulated the Pakistan Navy on the successful induction of the submarine.
