High-level talks between the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) concluded in Lahore on Monday, with sources indicating that a major breakthrough could be announced within the next 24 hours.
According to informed sources, negotiations lasted for more than five hours and focused on resolving the fallout from Bangladesh’s removal from the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Sources reveal that the ICC responded positively to Bangladesh’s concerns and has formulated a compensation mechanism aimed at addressing what the BCB considers an unfair decision. Several proposals were exchanged during the meeting, with the Pakistan Cricket Board playing a key mediating role between the two parties.
ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khwaja has since departed to seek final approval for the proposed formula from ICC leadership, while BCB President Aminul Islam has returned to brief the Bangladeshi government on the developments.
Sources further indicate that once internal approvals are secured, the ICC and BCB are expected to reconnect later today to finalize the agreement.
The dispute originated after Bangladesh raised serious security concerns regarding its team’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to be hosted by India. Bangladesh formally requested a change of venues, a request that was subsequently rejected by the ICC.
