George Clooney has shared that as he has grown older, he has become more selective about the roles he takes on. In a recent interview, the Hollywood star revealed that he now consciously avoids certain types of characters, especially romantic roles, as he feels they no longer suit his age.
Clooney explained that his thinking changed after he turned 60 and began reflecting more seriously on ageing. He shared a conversation he once had with his wife, Amal Clooney, saying that while he still feels fit, plays basketball with much younger men, and keeps himself active, time is a reality no one can escape. “No matter how healthy you are, getting older is a real thing,” he said, adding that this realization pushed him to rethink his career path. He also said that legendary actor Paul Newman inspired him to step away from romantic roles later in life.
Over the years, Clooney has starred in several well-loved romantic films, including One Fine Day with Michelle Pfeiffer, Intolerable Cruelty alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones, and the 2022 hit Ticket to Paradise with longtime friend Julia Roberts.

While promoting Ticket to Paradise, Clooney humorously spoke about filming a kissing scene with Roberts. He joked that it took nearly 80 takes and later explained that laughter ruined most of them. Roberts later clarified that they laughed through 79 takes before finally getting the scene right.
In another interview last month, Clooney also spoke warmly about his marriage to Amal. He claimed that, surprisingly, they have never had a serious argument and that with age, compromise has become much easier for him.
George and Amal Clooney first met in 2013 through a mutual friend. They married in September 2014 and have eight-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella.
