Bridgestone develops tire with 70% recycled components

A tire made from 70% recycled materials is steering the future of commercial transport toward sustainability without sacrificing performance.

In a decisive move toward cleaner mobility, Bridgestone has launched a next-generation commercial tire built with 70% recycled and renewable materials, aiming to help fleet operators cut environmental impact while maintaining the durability required for demanding urban operations.

Building on the proven durability of its M870 tire widely used in demanding urban fleet operations the company’s latest demonstration model blends sustainability with reliability.

Designed to handle high-stress environments such as city waste collection routes, the tire is engineered to maintain strength and wear resistance while significantly reducing its environmental footprint.

The innovation lies in its material composition. The tire incorporates a mix of recycled and responsibly sourced inputs, including synthetic rubber derived from butadiene, halo butyl rubber, recovered carbon black, and sustainably sourced natural rubber.

Together, these components create a more circular product lifecycle, reducing dependence on virgin materials.

To validate its real-world performance, the tires are being deployed this month in field trials on waste collection trucks one of the toughest testing grounds for commercial tires.

This hands-on evaluation is expected to demonstrate whether eco-friendly materials can match the durability standards required by heavy-duty fleets.

Further reinforcing its sustainability credentials, the tire has achieved ISCC PLUS certification, a globally recognized benchmark that verifies the traceability and responsible sourcing of materials throughout the supply chain.

Industry analysts see this development as a practical step forward rather than a distant concept one that could accelerate adoption of greener technologies in the commercial transport sector without disrupting current operations.

As pressure mounts to decarbonize mobility, Bridgestone’s latest innovation signals a future where sustainability isn’t a trade-off but a standard rolling forward on every mile of the journey.
