LAHORE: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore has sentenced senior political figures Dr Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mahmood Rasheed, Ejaz Chaudhry, and Umar Sarfaraz Cheema to ten years’ imprisonment each in a case related to the May 9 violence.

The verdict was announced by a special anti-terrorism court at Kot Lakhpat Jail in connection with vandalism at the GOR Gate on May 9. ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul delivered the reserved judgment inside the jail premises.

The court, however, acquitted Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the same case concerning the GOR Gate incident.

During the trial, final statements of 21 accused, including Dr Yasmin Rashid, were recorded. The prosecution presented 56 witnesses before the court to support its case. Four of the accused were declared proclaimed offenders during the proceedings.

The case was registered by the Race Course police, which had already submitted the challan before the court.
