LONDON: Britain’s future king, Prince William, has issued a personal message thanking firefighters, emergency responders and volunteers battling wildfires that have devastated parts of the West Midlands.

The 44-year-old Prince of Wales shared the message on Saturday, August 15, through his official Instagram account, which he shares with his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, following a series of major fires across the region.

“To the firefighters, emergency responders and volunteers battling wildfires across the UK, thank you,” William said, praising those working to protect communities.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected, particularly those who have lost their homes, and with those working tirelessly to protect communities, homes and the countryside,” he added.

Around 20 homes were reportedly destroyed in Stourbridge, while another 18 were damaged as the wildfire spread across more than 500 acres.

The West Midlands Fire Service said more than 100 firefighters responded to Thursday’s blaze, which started in nearby grassland before spreading to residential areas.

William’s message came as emergency crews continued efforts to contain wildfires and protect residents and property across the region.
