RIYADH: Portugal superstar and Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to Riyadh to prepare for the new season, but his latest appearance has drawn attention beyond football after he unveiled a striking new golden hairstyle.

The 40-year-old forward has replaced his traditional dark brown hair with a copper-yellow shade, prompting widespread interest among fans on social media. Images of Ronaldo sporting the new look have quickly gone viral.

Ronaldo returned to Saudi Arabia after spending time in Portugal following the end of his country’s World Cup campaign. Portugal were eliminated by Spain on July 6, after which Ronaldo resumed preparations with Al-Nassr.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner also shared a picture of himself on Instagram, wearing a black T-shirt, a chain and a watch. His newly styled golden hair was the most noticeable feature of the image, contrasting with his dark eyebrows.

Ronaldo’s return comes as Al-Nassr prepares for the 2026-27 Saudi Pro League season. The club is scheduled to open its league campaign against Al-Fateh at home on Aug. 15, followed by a match against Al-Riyadh on Aug. 21.

It remains unclear whether Ronaldo will feature in the opening match against Al-Fateh. New Al-Nassr coach Ange Postecoglou has described the Portuguese star as a player who is always ready to compete, but a final decision on his participation in the opener has yet to be made.

The upcoming campaign will mark Ronaldo’s 25th season in club football. The veteran forward is also chasing the milestone of 1,000 career goals and is aiming to reclaim the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot.

Ronaldo has stepped up his fitness preparations ahead of the new season, with training, nutrition and recovery forming part of his preparations. His return is expected to provide Al-Nassr with a major boost as the club targets domestic success.
