    Sindh govt announces public holiday on July 29

    The Sindh government on Monday declared July 29 a public holiday across the province to mark the annual urs of Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

    According to a notification issued by the provincial government, the holiday will apply to all provincial government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils operating under the administrative control of the Sindh government.

    “The Government of Sindh declares 14th Safar 1448 AH/29th July, 2026 (Wednesday) as a public holiday throughout the province of Sindh on the occasion of the Urs of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai for all government offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, local councils under the administrative control of the Government of Sindh,” the notification reads.

    The Urs begins every year on the 14th Safar (the second month of the Hijra calendar) and lasts for three days.

    The three-day ceremony of the Urs will begin with poetry marathons, literature conferences, and other activities to celebrate the poetry of the sufi saint.
