International leaders have voiced strong opposition following reports of US military strikes in Venezuela, condemning the action as a violation of sovereignty and an act of aggression.

    Colombia and Cuba Lead Opposition

Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro expressed alarm on social media, stating, “Alerting the whole world that they have attacked Venezuela.” He emphasized the importance of peace and respect for international law, reiterating Colombia’s stance against armed confrontation.

Cuba’s President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez condemned the US action as a “criminal attack” and accused Washington of “state terrorism.” In a fiery post on X (formerly Twitter), Diaz-Canel denounced the assault on Cuba’s “zone of peace,” calling for an urgent international response. Havana also issued a formal statement, condemning the attack and urging the global community to act swiftly.

Global Reactions: Condemnation from Iran, Russia, and Spain

Iran’s foreign ministry condemned the US military strike, describing it as a “flagrant violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.” Similarly, Russia expressed deep concern and condemned the act of armed aggression, calling for dialogue and restraint. The Russian Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its support for Venezuela’s right to determine its own future and expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan people.

Spain called for de-escalation and respect for international law. The Spanish Foreign Ministry offered itself as a mediator to help find a peaceful resolution in Venezuela.

Venezuela accused the US of attacking civilian and military locations in Caracas and other cities. Citing US officials, Fox News reported the US military attacked Venezuela, though there is no official confirmation of the attack from Washington yet.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil said the country “rejects, condemns, and denounces … the extremely grave military aggression.”

President Nicolas Maduro signed and ordered the implementation of a decree declaring a State of External Disturbance throughout the national territory.
