WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said he is confident that Iran will completely halt uranium enrichment and abandon efforts to develop nuclear weapons.

In his latest remarks, President Trump said he believes Iran will stop uranium enrichment “100 percent” and give up any attempt to acquire nuclear weapons capability.

The US president also stated that the United States would secure Iran’s nuclear waste and emphasized that work on a possible agreement with Tehran must move quickly, although no rushed decision would be made.

Trump said that despite the ongoing blockade, Washington would not act hastily regarding Iran and confirmed that direct contacts had taken place with Iranian officials during the negotiations.

Referring to his comments from the previous day, Trump said the United States had achieved a major military success and that he felt no pressure or frustration over the Iran issue.

He reiterated his claim that the United States would achieve a “complete victory” regarding Iran and suggested that resolving the dispute could lead to lower global oil prices.

Earlier, United States government imposed sanctions on three individuals and nine companies, including four based in Hong Kong, four in the United Arab Emirates, and one in Oman, over their alleged involvement in facilitating Iranian oil exports to China.

This action comes shortly after Washington announced fresh sanctions on Friday targeting individuals and firms accused of helping Iran acquire components used in drones and ballistic missiles.

The latest measures were announced just days ahead of a planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, where Iran-related tensions and the security of the Strait of Hormuz are expected to be discussed.

According to the US Treasury Department, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has blacklisted the individuals and entities for allegedly assisting Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in selling and transporting oil through a network of front companies.
