Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong support for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s four-point peace initiative, reiterating Islamabad’s commitment to China’s efforts aimed at promoting regional peace, stability, and constructive engagement.
The prime minister expressed these views while addressing a reception held in his honour at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, highlighting the depth and strategic significance of Pakistan–China relations.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by his delegation, received a warm and formal welcome upon arrival, where he was received by Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
The ceremony included a guard of honour presented by the Chinese armed forces, while the national anthems of both countries were played, reflecting the longstanding diplomatic friendship between the two nations.
During delegation-level talks, the prime minister thanked the Chinese leadership for its hospitality and stated that every visit to China reflects its remarkable transformation, sustained modernization, and rapid economic development.
He also conveyed condolences over the tragic coal mine explosion in Shanxi province, which resulted in loss of lives and injuries, and expressed solidarity with the affected families.

Highlighting bilateral relations, Shehbaz Sharif noted that Pakistan and China are commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year, describing the relationship as historic, resilient, and rooted in shared vision and mutual trust.
Referring to regional developments, the prime minister said Pakistan has played a constructive role in facilitating diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran.
He noted that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir recently undertook diplomatic engagements in Tehran, while Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has remained in contact with regional counterparts.
He added that positive momentum has been observed in regional diplomatic efforts and stressed that continued engagement is essential for sustaining peace and stability. He also acknowledged China’s consistent support for Pakistan’s initiatives aimed at de-escalation and ceasefire efforts.
Shehbaz Sharif endorsed President Xi’s four-point peace framework and referred to a parallel five-point initiative jointly proposed by the foreign ministers of Pakistan and China, designed to strengthen dialogue and reduce regional tensions.
He further emphasized that ongoing geopolitical tensions have affected global economic stability as well as Pakistan’s economy, underscoring the need for collective international cooperation to ensure lasting peace.
During his official visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping, attend events marking the 75th anniversary of Pakistan–China diplomatic relations, lay a floral wreath at the Monument to the People’s Heroes at Tiananmen Square, and meet leading Chinese investors and business leaders to explore opportunities for expanded economic cooperation.
