PESHAWAR: In a significant move to enhance counterterrorism operations and modernize its force, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police has distributed a massive consignment of state-of-the-art vehicles and equipment valued at billions of rupees to district police officers across the province.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hamid officially handed over the keys and documents for the new assets during a ceremony attended by Additional IGPs, Deputy Inspectors General, and other senior police officials. The allocation marks a major milestone in the province’s ongoing capacity-building efforts.

The distributed inventory includes advanced Dragon armored personnel carriers (APCs), bulletproof vehicles, single and double-cabin pickup trucks, forklifts, and motorcycles, all aimed at strengthening operational readiness in a province that remains on the front lines of the national fight against militancy.

“These modern APCs and vehicles will play a vital role in enhancing the operational efficiency of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police,” IGP Hamid stated at the event. “Our objective is to ensure effective and people-friendly policing while safeguarding the precious lives of our officers.”

    Strategic Distribution to High-Risk Districts

The most heavily fortified assets, the Dragon APCs, were strategically allocated to the most volatile districts, including Tank, Hangu, and Swat, to enable safer mobility for troops in high-threat environments. Additional APCs were dispatched to Upper Dir and Mansehra.

In a parallel effort to bolster rapid response capabilities, modern “Revo” vehicles were provided to the District Police Officers (DPOs) of Kohat and Tor Ghar. High-security vans were also distributed to the police forces in Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Abbottabad, and the Telecommunications Unit.

To further improve district-level policing, 4×4 single-cabin vehicles were sent to Swat and Lower Dir, while 4×2 single-cabin pickups were allocated to Hangu and Tank. A total of 33 forklifts were distributed across various districts and units to assist with traffic management and logistics, alongside 25 motorcycles to enhance patrol mobility.

Focus on Force Protection and Mobility

IGP Hamid emphasized that the upgrade is not only about new acquisitions but also about fortifying existing resources. He noted that 84 APCs are currently undergoing upgrades to incorporate modern technology and make them impenetrable against evolving threats.

“Last year, we also equipped police mobiles with side-armoring to ensure that patrol teams can move safely,” he said. “The provision of these new vehicles, including APCs and pickups, will strengthen our capacity building, ensure timely access to the public, and improve our overall response to terrorist attacks.”

Addressing urban challenges, the IGP highlighted that the 33 forklifts distributed across the province would significantly improve traffic management, reduce illegal parking, and ease congestion on major highways.

    Commitment to Modernization

The provincial police chief reiterated the force’s commitment to maintaining durable peace and providing quality services to citizens. He stressed that the KP Police is being equipped not only with modern weapons and training but also with cutting-edge vehicles and gadgetry.

“The provision of modern equipment is a continuous process,” IGP Hamid concluded. “We will persist in our efforts to ensure that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police remains a formidable and modern force capable of meeting any challenge.”
