The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday prolonged the stay order on NEPRA’s decision in the K-Electric tariff case, according to source information.
The court persisted in hearing petitions that challenge the recent reduction in the k-electric powered tariff. Advocate Kashif Hanif submitted his power of attorney on behalf of the petitioners.
Throughout the hearing, K-electric’s attorney argued that NEPRA gave its October 20 decision on a petition filed by using someone who wasn’t even a real stakeholder. He stated NEPRA rejected all overview petitions and fixed the tariff at Rs32 per unit.
The attorney warned that if the federal government issues a notification to enforce this new tariff, K-electric may want to go through essential financial losses and might even have to shut down operations. He additionally claimed that NEPRA, while using its suo motu powers, did not issue notices to the relevant events throughout the assessment process.
After hearing the arguments, the SHC prolonged the existing stay order on NEPRA’s decision and postponed the case till December 10.
Earlier, the SHC had already stopped NEPRA from taking any action against K-Electric regarding the tariff dispute.
