    PM calls trilateral defence agreement shield for future generations

    ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday described the joint defence agreement signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye as a historic milestone, saying it would contribute to peace, stability, development and prosperity for future generations.

    In a statement on social media platform X, the prime minister said he had the honor of signing the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement alongside Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

    Shehbaz said the three brotherly countries share bonds of faith, friendship and a common commitment to peace and security.

    He expressed hope that the agreement, signed under the shadow of the Haramain Sharifain, would serve as a shield of peace and stability for future generations and become a source of progress, prosperity and blessings for Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and the wider Muslim world.

    The prime minister also expressed special appreciation for Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, saying his efforts, dedication and commitment played an important role in achieving the landmark agreement.

    Earlier, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said the defence agreement signed between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye will help promote regional peace and have positive effects across the wider region.

    Faisal bin Farhan said the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement reflects the strong relations between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye and represents an important milestone in defence cooperation among the three countries.

    He said the agreement demonstrates a shared political commitment to protecting peace and stability, adding that closer coordination among the three nations would contribute to regional security.

    Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye signed the joint defence pact in Makkah, under which an armed attack against any one of the three countries would be considered an attack against all three nations.
