Resident Evil story could end within 10 years, producer says

The series' executive producer says the next one could close the story.In a chat with Japan's Kyodo News, Jun Takeuchi said the Resident Evil 2 remake began a 10-year branding concept, and Requiem finished it.

He added that he thinks the story will conclude within the next ten years.He didn't say whether that means the end of the franchise or just the story of Leon, Claire, Jill and Chris.

He did say Capcom plans to release multiple games over the next decade.

He couldn't say more without giving spoilers.Capcom has reportedly said it wants a new Resident Evil game every year.

The next is Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of Code Veronica, due in 2027.Rumours point to remakes of Resident Evil: Zero and the original game, with 5 and even 6 possible later.

That could make half the coming decade remakes.

Treat those rumours with caution until Capcom confirms them.Takeuchi has also said Capcom is developing the series on two tracks.

Numbered games tell the ongoing story, while remakes revisit the past.

He says Capcom has been preparing for the two to eventually cross over since Resident Evil Village.The Raccoon City outbreak happened in 1998, so the core cast is much older now.

Another soft reboot with a new crew is possible.But the viruses and parasites that have affected some characters' ageing mean others could plausibly stick around.
