ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) announced that Pakistan will host two consecutive ITF W15,000 USD Women’s Futures tournaments in Islamabad beginning Oct. 5, 2026, marking the first time the country will stage back-to-back events of this level for women players.
The tournaments will be held in the lead-up to the Billie Jean King Cup and are being hailed by the federation as a significant step forward in the development of women’s tennis in Pakistan.
PTF President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi said the events underscore the federation’s commitment to expanding competitive opportunities for female athletes.
“We successfully provided strong opportunities for our men’s players through ITF Men’s Futures tournaments. Now, we are proud to host two ITF W15,000 USD Women’s Futures tournaments in October, giving our female players a chance to earn ranking points and gain international exposure at home,” Qureshi said.
He added that the tournaments would enable Pakistan’s leading women players to compete at an international level without incurring significant travel expenses while also helping them prepare for future international competitions, including the Billie Jean King Cup.
Among the players expected to benefit from the initiative are Ushna Suhail, Mahin Aftab, Soha Ali, Romaisa Malik, Bismal Zia, Meheq Khokhar, Zunaisha Noor, Zainab Ali Raja, Fatima Ali Raja and Laibah Durab, along with other emerging talents.
The Pakistan Women’s Tennis Association, established in 2024, has continued to support initiatives aimed at expanding participation and opportunities for women in the sport.
Association President Asma Khawar Khawaja said the tournaments would enhance Pakistan’s standing in international tennis while contributing to the development of future talent.
“These W15, 000 USD tournaments strengthen Pakistan’s position in international tennis and reflect PTF’s efforts to develop women’s tennis and nurture future champions,” she said.
PTF Secretary General Col Zia-ud-Din Tufail described the hosting of consecutive events as a major achievement for the federation and the country’s tennis community.
“Hosting back-to-back W15,000 USD events is a major achievement and will greatly benefit players through increased international exposure at home,” he said.
