Prince George’s new school steps up privacy measures

Prince George is set to begin secondary school at Eton College next month, and the school has installed new privacy signs ahead of his arrival.

Like his father, Prince William, did years ago, the 13-year-old prince will live at the all-boys boarding school. He will return to his family’s nearby home on some weekends and during school breaks.

New “no photography” signs have appeared around the campus ahead of George’s arrival, reinforcing privacy rules already in place for students and visitors.

Founded in 1440, Eton has educated many prominent public figures over the centuries, including several former British prime ministers. As a future king, Prince George is expected to become one of the school’s most high-profile students.

The school’s strict privacy policies are believed to be one reason William and Catherine, Princess of Wales chose Eton for their son. The couple has consistently sought to provide their three children with a relatively normal upbringing, keeping them largely out of the public eye until they are ready for greater public responsibilities.

Royal experts say Eton provided William with privacy and stability during his school years, and they expect George to benefit in a similar way. The school is expected to offer both academic opportunities and a supportive social environment.

Another advantage is the school’s proximity to the family’s home.

In addition to photography restrictions, Eton has limited smartphone use for first-year students since 2024. Instead of smartphones, younger students are provided with basic phones that allow calls and text messages but do not offer internet access.
