ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered a comprehensive performance review of federal ministries and divisions after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s recent remarks sparked debate over the government’s overall performance.

The review will assess ministries’ achievements, governance reforms and public service delivery since February 2024, with findings expected to guide future administrative decisions, including a possible cabinet reshuffle.

According to official sources, the Prime Minister’s Office has directed all federal ministries and divisions to submit detailed performance reports on a prescribed format.

The ministries have been asked to provide records of their performance against key responsibilities, including progress on policy objectives, governance reforms, completed projects and measures taken to improve public services.

Officials said the reports must include measurable outcomes, project completion details, implementation timelines and evidence supporting performance claims.

Ministries have also been directed to explain delays in pending projects, highlight challenges faced during implementation and provide details of corrective measures taken to improve progress.

The review will cover 18 ministries dealing with economic and financial affairs, 14 ministries responsible for law, security and administrative matters, and nine ministries overseeing social sectors, including health and education.

The PM Office has made it mandatory for ministries to attach documentary evidence with their claims, warning that incomplete reports or unsupported achievements will not be accepted.

The evaluation will also examine the utilisation of development funds, performance of public sector projects, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority, the Planning Commission, implementation of the Annual Development Programme (ADP), economic policy outcomes and public-private partnership initiatives.

The review will further assess improvements in the national census and statistical system, along with the performance of special programmes launched by the Prime Minister’s Office.

Government sources said the findings of the assessment are likely to play a role in decisions regarding changes in the federal cabinet and steps to improve governance and administrative efficiency.
