PCB lodges complaint over controversial DRS review in third ODI

Pakistan’s team management raised the issue with match referee Naeem Al‑Rasheed following a disputed review taken by Bangladesh.

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has formally lodged a complaint over a controversial Decision Review System (DRS) call during the third One Day International against Bangladesh national cricket team.

According to a cricket website report, Pakistan’s team management raised the issue with match referee Naeem Al‑Rasheed following a disputed review taken by Bangladesh in the final over of the match.

The incident occurred on the fifth ball of the last over when the on-field umpire initially ruled a delivery by Bangladesh bowler Rishad Hossain as a wide.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto then opted for a review after a replay had already been shown on the stadium screen.

At the time of the review, Pakistan required 12 runs from two balls to win. The third umpire overturned the original decision, meaning Pakistan then needed 12 runs off the final delivery.

Pakistan’s team management argued that a review should not be allowed once a replay has been displayed on the stadium screen, claiming the procedure violated DRS protocols.

The complaint submitted to the match referee highlighted what the PCB described as an officiating error.

The PCB has not yet specified what action it expects from the match referee, though sources indicate the board may at least seek a formal clarification or acknowledgment of the mistake.

The controversy comes after another contentious moment in the previous ODI, when Pakistan’s Salman Ali Agha was given run out while stepping out of his crease to return the ball, leading to a heated exchange with Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 11 runs in the third ODI to seal the series 2–1.
