ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has rejected reports by Indian media claiming that it contacted the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding Pakistan’s decision not to play against India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
According to a PCB spokesperson, the claims circulating in the Indian media are false and misleading. “Time will tell who actually approached whom,” the spokesperson added.
Earlier reports had suggested that following Pakistan’s announcement to boycott the India match in protest of what it termed the ICC’s double standards over Bangladesh, the ICC had written a letter to the PCB.
Sources confirmed that the PCB responded to the ICC’s communication, and it is now up to the ICC to clarify the contents and outcome of that correspondence.
Sources also noted that the ICC had reached out to other boards in an effort to resolve the matter.
It is important to note that Pakistan will participate in the T20 World Cup but will not play the group stage match against India on February 15.
While there are multiple reasons for this decision, sources say the ICC’s biased ruling regarding Bangladesh played a central role, and the Government of Pakistan wanted to show solidarity with Bangladesh on the issue.
