Pakistan’s merchandise exports to North America increased 1.32% to $6.503 billion in fiscal year 2025-26 from $6.418 billion in the previous year.

Imports from North America also increased, rising 6.52% to $3.822 billion from $3.588 billion.

Under the new trade agreement, Pakistan is expected to import more goods from the United States to help reduce the trade imbalance between the two countries. As a result, imports from North America, particularly from the United States, increased significantly during the year.

However, Pakistan’s exports to Canada declined. Imports from the United States rose nearly 39% during FY26, while Pakistan’s exports to the United States increased only 1.55%.

The development comes as President Donald Trump has imposed additional tariffs while providing Pakistan with limited relief under a reciprocal trade arrangement.

Under the agreement, Pakistan is expected to increase imports of U.S. oil and other commodities to help narrow the bilateral trade gap.

The United States remained Pakistan’s largest export market in North America, accounting for nearly 94% of the country’s total exports to the region. The remaining exports mainly went to Canada and other countries.

According to State Bank of Pakistan data, Pakistan’s merchandise exports to North America increased 9.97% in FY25 to $6.415 billion from $5.833 billion a year earlier, mainly due to higher textile and clothing exports to the United States.

During FY26, exports to the United States increased 1.55% to $6.125 billion from $6.031 billion in the previous year.

In FY25, exports to the United States rose 10.72% to $6.028 billion from $5.444 billion in the previous year.

Exports to Canada fell 2.30% to $377.455 million in FY26 from $386.347 million a year earlier.

Imports from the United States jumped 38.93% to $3.265 billion in FY26 from $2.350 billion in the previous year.

Pakistan’s exports to Latin America declined 8.32% to $66.98 million in FY26 from $73.06 million a year earlier.

Exports to Central America also fell 2.11% to $165.86 million in FY26 from $169.43 million in the previous year. Mexico remained the region’s main export destination, although exports to the country declined 6.25% to $122.03 million from $130.17 million.

According to State Bank of Pakistan data, exports to South America, including Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, increased 15% to $402.39 million in FY26 from $349.88 million in FY25.
