ISLAMABAD: For the first time in Pakistan’s history, the National Blood Transfusion Policy has been approved by the federal cabinet and made operational.

The policy has been made operational through sustained efforts by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).

The policy, developed with robust inter-ministerial and inter-provincial collaboration, introduces the revolutionary “Plasma Fractionation” technique, which will enable self-reliance in plasma production. This move is expected to enhance Pakistan’s access to global markets and boost the export potential of plasma-derived products.

Dr. Darnaz Jamal, Secretary of the Blood Transfusion Authority Sindh, stated, “With SIFC’s support, this long-pending policy has finally been implemented. It reflects the government’s comprehensive strategy and efforts to strengthen the healthcare sector.”

Brigadier (R) Dr. Nuzhat Mashahid, a hematology expert, added, “I congratulate SIFC, all ministries, provinces, and healthcare professionals who contributed their expertise in shaping this policy.”

This landmark initiative marks a significant step toward modernizing Pakistan’s health sector and ensuring sustainable plasma and blood product management.
