Islamabad: On Thursday, Pakistan issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s aggression in Lebanon, pointing to the deaths of civilians and extensive damage to infrastructure, as stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

The statement declared: “These Israeli actions sabotage global initiatives for regional peace and stability, while flagrantly breaching international law and core humanitarian norms.”

The Foreign Office urged the international community to act swiftly and decisively to halt the aggression.

It reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for Lebanon’s government and people amid these challenges, emphasizing: “Pakistan backs Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, peace, and stability.”

Separately, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a phone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, where both voiced serious alarm over ceasefire breaches in Lebanon and highlighted the critical need for complete adherence to the truce to foster enduring peace and stability.

The DPM/FM thanked Saudi Arabia for its ongoing backing of Pakistan’s push for lasting peace, and the two agreed to stay in close touch.

The previous day, Iran raised alarms about violations of its temporary ceasefire with the United States following Israeli strikes on Lebanon, and it suspended oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

Soon after a ceasefire deal mediated by Pakistan, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced that Tehran was readying a major counterstrike against Israel for breaching the truce in Lebanon.

This came after international media reports, based on Lebanon’s Health Ministry, indicated that Israeli strikes earlier that day killed at least 89 people and injured over 700 nationwide.

Israel launched its most intense assaults on Lebanon since the Hezbollah conflict erupted last month, despite the Iran-backed group suspending attacks on northern Israel and Israeli forces in Lebanon under the two-week US-Iran ceasefire.
