KARACHI: Pakistan’s local produced automobile sales jumped 79% year-over-year in July 2026, driven by new market entrants, product launches and a surge in auto financing, according to data released Tuesday by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association.

Car sales, including light commercial vehicles, vans and jeeps, reached 19,818 units in July, up from 11,034 units in the same month last year. However, sales fell 13% month-over-month from 22,741 units in June, which industry observers attributed to uncertainty surrounding the country’s new auto policy.

    Indus Motor leads gains

Indus Motor Company was the only major automaker to post a month-over-month increase. The Toyota assembler reported 5,089 units sold, a 53% year-over-year and 45% month-over-month rise, marking a roughly four-year high.

The growth was driven by Corolla, Yaris and Corolla Cross sales, which collectively rose 77% year-over-year and 62% month-over-month to 4,283 units. Fortuner and IMV sales declined 12% year-over-year and 6% month-over-month to 806 units.

Honda Atlas Cars recorded a 76% year-over-year increase but saw sales decline 11% month-over-month to 2,640 units. City and Civic sales more than doubled year-over-year but fell 3% month-over-month to 2,529 units, while BR-V and HR-V sales dropped 69% year-over-year and 71% month-over-month to 111 units.

    Suzuki, Sazgar, Hyundai sales slide

Pakistan Suzuki Motor Co. reported sales of 10,120 units, up 2.8 times year-over-year but down 12% month-over-month, led by Alto and Swift models at 7,217 and 2,018 units respectively.

    Sazgar Engineering recorded 663 units sold, a 15-month low, down 39% year-over-year and 76% month-over-month.

    Hyundai Nishat Motors posted a 42% year-over-year and 47% month-over-month decline to 710 units.

Two- and three-wheelers, tractors, commercial vehicles

Two- and three-wheeler sales increased 38% year-over-year but declined 4% month-over-month to 172,416 units in July.

    Tractor sales rose 4% year-over-year but fell 59% month-over-month to 1,242 units.

Truck and bus sales surged 2.5 times year-over-year but declined 10% month-over-month to 919 units.

Analysts expects the positive momentum in auto sales to continue in fiscal year 2027, with double-digit growth supported by the launch of new variants and the entry of new brands into the market.
