Pakistan is committed to the safety of peacekeepers and aid workers, Asim Iftikhar

Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Asim Iftikhar said that attacks on aid workers are weakening the system for the protection of civilians. He urged the Security Council to ensure immediate and sustained implementation of Resolution 2730.

He said the international community must defend those who stand between civilians and destruction. He added that attacks on aid workers show a decline in respect for international law.

Pakistan called on all parties to armed conflicts to respect and protect aid workers. He said those responsible for such attacks should be identified and brought to justice.

He also called for countering misinformation and misleading narratives against UN personnel. He urged the Security Council to improve its performance in conflict prevention and mediation.

He reaffirmed that Pakistan is committed to the safety of peacekeepers and aid workers.
