    Pakistan and Syria seek to deepen bilateral ties in Islamabad

    Syrian foreign minister begins a two-day visit focused on expanding cooperation and discussing regional developments.

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Syria are opening a fresh chapter in their bilateral engagement as Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani arrived in Islamabad late Wednesday for a two-day official visit focused on strengthening ties, expanding cooperation and discussing regional and international developments.

    Al-Shaibani is visiting Pakistan from Aug. 19 to 20 at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. He arrived with a high-level official delegation and was received at the airport by the Foreign Office’s additional secretary for the Middle East.

    H.E. Mr. Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic, arrived in Islamabad today on an official visit to Pakistan at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar @MIshaqDar50.

    The visit is expected to bring Pakistani and Syrian officials together for detailed discussions covering the full spectrum of bilateral relations. The two sides will also explore opportunities to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

    According to the Foreign Office, the talks will include an exchange of views on regional and international developments. The discussions are expected to provide an opportunity for both countries to coordinate their positions on issues affecting the region and beyond.

    The Syrian foreign minister is also expected to meet with senior Pakistani officials and leadership during his stay in Islamabad. These meetings are likely to focus on strengthening political and diplomatic engagement and identifying additional areas for cooperation.

    The Foreign Office said al-Shaibani’s visit represents an important step toward further strengthening Pakistan-Syria relations and advancing cooperation between the two countries.

    The visit also reflects continued diplomatic engagement between Islamabad and regional partners as countries work to address political, economic and security challenges across the region.

    With bilateral relations on the agenda, the two-day visit is expected to provide both sides with an opportunity to review existing cooperation and discuss ways to build stronger ties in the future.
