MICHIGAN: Six people, including a suspected gunman, were killed and one person was wounded in a series of shootings at multiple locations in Michigan’s Muskegon County, US media reported Saturday.
Police found three people dead inside a home and recovered another person who had been wounded at the same location, according to reports.
As officers began searching for the suspected shooter, another person was found dead at a second residence, bringing the death toll higher.
Authorities later located the suspect’s vehicle near a wooded area. Police found the suspected gunman and another person dead in the area.
Investigators are working to determine whether the shootings at the different locations were connected and to establish a possible motive.
Authorities said further details would be released as the investigation progresses.
Eight workers killed in Bangladesh shipbreaking yard accident
CHITTAGONG: Eight workers were killed and five others were reported missing after a toxic gas leak at a shipbreaking yard in the Bangladeshi city of Chittagong, local authorities said.
The incident occurred while workers were dismantling an old vessel when toxic gas was reportedly released, affecting several workers. A number of people were taken to hospitals in unconscious condition, with some reported to be in critical condition.
Rescue teams reached the site and began relief operations, transporting affected workers to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Authorities also launched a search for the five workers who remained missing.
Police have opened an investigation to determine the cause of the accident, while a special committee has also been formed to examine the incident. Authorities have ordered a review and safety audit of the shipbreaking yard.
Fire service officials said the initial assessment suggested that gas inside the vessel may not have been completely removed before dismantling work began. Proper gas clearance is considered a critical safety measure in shipbreaking operations.
