Lahore ranks second most polluted city globally
Breathing in Lahore has become increasingly hazardous, with the city ranking second globally in pollution and recording a smog level of 429.

Lahore: According to a recent report by a global environmental website, Lahore continues to rank as the second most polluted city in the world. The city’s average smog level has reached 429, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) in various areas hitting dangerously high levels.
In Ravi Road, the AQI reached 1198, while Lower Mall recorded 810, and the vicinity of FC College registered 706 levels considered extremely hazardous to public health.
Among other Pakistani cities, Gujranwala recorded the highest pollution, with its AQI reaching 593. Faisalabad’s AQI was recorded at 365, Multan at 299, and Peshawar at 172.
Globally, India’s capital, New Delhi, remains the most polluted city, with its AQI reaching 702.
Health experts have urged residents to wear masks, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, and use air purifiers at home. Environmental specialists attributed the city’s severe pollution to crop residue burning, traffic congestion, and industrial emissions.
