Madison Square Garden got a little taste of Richmond AFC on Tuesday night.
Jason Sudeikis pulled off a surprise appearance during Mumford & Sons’ New York concert, jumping onstage to perform the Ted Lasso theme song with the band.
Halfway through the show, cameras spotted Sudeikis in the crowd, casually nodding along like any other fan. Then came the plot twist: he smiled, sprinted toward the stage and joined the band, sending the MSG crowd into a frenzy.
The Ted Lasso theme was co-written by composer Tom Howe and Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford, who also performs the track heard near the beginning of each episode.
Mumford clearly wasn’t done having fun with the surprise. He later warned the rowdy New York audience to settle down “or I’m going to stick Ted on you.”
The cameo comes as Sudeikis’ beloved Apple TV+ soccer comedy enters a surprising new chapter. Season four premiered earlier this month after the actor had initially expected the series to wrap with its third season in 2023.
But apparently, Ted wasn’t ready to hang up his whistle.
In a recent Hollywood Reporter interview, Sudeikis admitted he began questioning the ending after production wrapped. “I was like, ‘Oh, I don’t know if it’s done,’” he told THR.
The actor has clearly embraced the power of a surprise cameo.
In July, he also appeared during the first FIFA World Cup Final halftime show, with Ted offering Justin Bieber some encouragement before the singer’s performance.
At this point, if Sudeikis pops up at your next concert, don’t be surprised. Just keep some biscuits nearby.
