Islamabad: Diplomatic engagements have intensified in the federal capital as a high-level delegation from Iran arrived in Islamabad to participate in important talks.

The Iranian delegation is being led by Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and also includes Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Upon arrival, the delegation was warmly received by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The reception was attended by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi.

According to the Foreign Office, Ishaq Dar expressed optimism that the negotiations  between the two countries would move forward in a constructive manner.

Pakistan also reiterated its commitment to facilitating efforts aimed at achieving sustainable and long-term solutions to ongoing regional conflicts.

Negotiations come after a two-week ceasefire declared by Donald Trump, which followed six weeks of fighting and brought a pause to US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran.

US Vice President JD Vance, heading the American delegation, expressed optimism about a favorable outcome, while warning that any attempt by Iran to mislead the US would prompt a strong response.

Despite the ceasefire, Iran still faces limitations in accessing tens of billions of dollars held abroad due to ongoing US sanctions targeting its banking and energy sectors, highlighting the high stakes of the talks in Islamabad.

The Middle East conflict began on February 28, when the United States and Israel carried out coordinated strikes that killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and targeted Iran’s military and nuclear facilities, leading to more than 2,000 deaths over five weeks.
