A severe heatwave has started across Punjab, and weather experts say temperatures will rise further in the coming days.
The hot and dry weather has already affected many cities, while people are being advised to stay careful during outdoor activities.
In Lahore, the heat was felt early in the morning as the temperature reached 33°C. The minimum temperature is expected to stay around 27°C, while the maximum may touch 41°C. Experts say nights are also becoming warmer.
Several districts of Punjab are also likely to experience temperatures 5°C to 7°C above normal. Cities such as Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Pakpattan, and Rahim Yar Khan may see temperatures between 44°C and 48°C.
The minimum temperature, which was previously around 26°C, may increase to 28°C. As a result, residents are likely to face uncomfortable weather both day and night.
According to weather forecasts, temperatures between 41°C and 44°C are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Gujrat from June 8 to June 10.
In central Punjab, the heatwave is expected to be more intense. Cities including Okara, Kasur, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, and Jhang may record temperatures between 44°C and 48°C from June 8 to June 11.
The Meteorological Department has urged people to take safety measures during the extreme weather. Citizens are advised to avoid direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day and drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
Meanwhile, Karachi is also expected to face very hot weather from June 8 to June 12. Temperatures in the city are likely to remain between 40°C and 43°C. Warm conditions may continue during the night as minimum temperatures are also expected to rise.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, temperatures are forecast to remain 4°C to 6°C above normal between June 8 and June 11. Daytime temperatures in the plains may range from 41°C to 46°C. In northern areas, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Gilgit-Baltistan, temperatures are expected to stay between 37°C and 40°C from June 8 to June 10.
Similar conditions are expected in Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Layyah, Bhakkar, and Kot Addu, where extreme heat is likely to continue until June 11.
