The death toll from floods in Sri Lanka has exceeded 500. Rescue teams are working, and Pakistan is also carrying out relief operations to help the affected people.
The death toll from heavy rains, floods and landslides in Sri Lanka has risen to more than 500, with 336 people still missing. It is being described as the worst natural disaster in Sri Lanka since the 2004 tsunami.
According to official reports, more than 1.5 million people have been affected across Sri Lanka. The worst-hit region was the Kandy region, where 88 people were killed and more than 150 are missing.
Authorities said that efforts were underway to repair roads, rebuild communication networks and set up temporary shelters for the affected people.
More than 20,000 displaced people have been moved to safer places so far.
Relief Operations
The Government of Pakistan is continuing relief efforts for the victims of the cyclone in Sri Lanka.
On the special instructions of the Prime Minister, the NDMA is sending 200 tons of relief supplies to Sri Lanka by ship.
Due to the ban on the use of Indian airspace, NDMA has taken special measures to send relief goods from Pakistan by sea.
Due to irresponsible behavior of India, they were sent by sea from Pakistan. The goods will take about 8 days to reach.
The relief goods included tents, blankets, quilts, life jackets, boats, water pumps, lanterns, mats, mosquito nets, powdered milk for children, rations and medicines.
The handover ceremony was held at the NDMA warehouse in Islamabad. Minister of State Azhar Bilal Kayani attended the handover ceremony.
The Sri Lankan Ambassador and Defense Attaché were also present at the ceremony. Representatives from NDMA, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al-Khidmat Foundation and media also attended the consignment dispatch ceremony.
Pakistan will continue to make every effort to assist the victims of Sri Lanka.
