In a major political development in Azad Kashmir, the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq has succeeded, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore elected as the region’s 16th Prime Minister with a strong majority.

During the assembly session chaired by Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar, members including Sardar Javed Ayub and Chaudhry Qasim Majeed presented the no-confidence resolution, nominating Faisal Mumtaz Rathore as the new Leader of the House.

In the voting process, Rathore secured 36 votes, while only 2 votes were cast against him. With 27 votes required for victory, he won comfortably and became the 16th Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir.

Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq, who was elected as Prime Minister in April 2023 with 48 votes, chose to face the no-confidence motion instead of resigning.

The newly elected Prime Minister, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, is expected to take oath of office tomorrow. Senior leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party is likely to attend the ceremony. Rathore will be the fourth Prime Minister of the current assembly.

Strict security arrangements were in place across Muzaffarabad due to the no-confidence proceedings held today.
