Elon John just advocated for the update of copyright laws for artificial intelligence.
The Beatles legend Paul McCartney, the iconic Coldplay and pop star Dua Lipa are amongst the 400 artists who supported the iconic pianist’s cause.
In the signed letter, writers and artists addressed Sir Keir Starmer to update AI laws stressing that failing to safeguard their work would force them to “give away” their work to tech firms.
“Creative copyright is the lifeblood of the creative industries,” the letter strongly begins.
It also clarifies that, “We are not against progress or innovation. The creative industries have always been early adopters of technology.”
Highlighting the quality of AI’s relationship with creativity the letter further reads, “We are wealth creators, we reflect and promote national stories, we are the innovators of the future, and Al needs us as much as it needs energy and computer skills.”
“To parliamentarians on all sides of the political spectrum and in both Houses, we urge you to vote in support of the UK creative industries. Supporting us supports the creators of the future. Our work is not yours to give away,” the letter boldly states.
In this letter, uploaded on Sir Elton John’s official Instagram account, all the musicians urge the Prime Minister to back an amendment to the Data (Use and Access) Bill, which requires developers to be transparent with copyright owners about the usage of their work to develop AI models.
