David Harbour takes home first Emmy: ‘Very moving’

David Harbour earned his first Emmy 27 years after making his professional acting debut in 1999.

During the second day of the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards held on September 6 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the Stranger Things star took home the trophy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

The 51-year-old actor bagged his first career Emmy for his performance in DTF St. Louis. He plays Floyd Smernitch, a tenderhearted American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter and former model caught in a complicated suburban love triangle, in the dark comedy series.

It is pertinent to note that Harbour defeated his own co-stars Jason Bateman and Richard Jenkins, who were nominated in the same category for the series.

Prior to DTF St. Louis, Harbour had been nominated twice at the Emmys for Stranger Things.

Being recognised for his latest performance he told The Hollywood Reporter that it was “very moving.”

Additionally, the HBO limited series earned a total of 13 nominations and emerged as a dominant force at the 78th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

Sweeping major limited series categories, DTF St. Louis captured six major wins.

Linda Cardellini won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited/Anthology Series or Movie for her role as Carol Love-Smernitch.

She won the trophy over co-star Joy Sunday, Dakota Fanning (All Her Fault), Laurie Metcalf (Monster: The Ed Gein Story), Constance Zimmer (Love Story), and Youn Yuh-jung (BEEF).

Steven Conrad swept the craft races, winning Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series.

He notably beat out Lee Sung Jin, the creator of Netflix’s critically acclaimed BEEF (Season 2).

The show also won Outstanding Picture Editing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
