Dakota Fanning wants to recreate her childhood Critics Choice Awards speech moment with Orlando Bloom.
Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast on Monday, August 24, the 32-year-old actress revealed that she and Bloom still joke about the hilarious 2002 moment whenever they see each other.
Fanning was just 7 years old when she won Best Young Actor for I Am Sam. But because she was too short to reach the microphone, presenter Bloom picked her up and held her as she delivered her lengthy acceptance speech.
“People make me watch it all the time,” Fanning said. “I was just with my sister’s boyfriend’s family this past weekend, it’s their favourite thing. Someone came over, a friend, they were like, ‘Have you seen it? You have to see it.’”
Fanning joked that she started “running down the hall” to avoid having to watch the clip.
“I’m, like, hiding in the room. I come out, still not over, still talking. Orlando Bloom’s shaking, like, a leaf trying to hold me up,” she recalled.
She also laughed at how many people she thanked, saying, “I thank God and my agents. God. Then my agents. Unbelievable.”
Still, Fanning insists she loves the iconic memory. The pair even reenact it when they cross paths, with Bloom telling her, “All right, come on, let’s do it!”
And Fanning believes the Critics Choice Awards should finally bring the duo back together on stage, adding, “I’m like the Critics Choice… they’re missing an amazing bit.”
