From Wicked to Dracula, Erivo embraces bold new challenges

Cynthia Erivo is once again captivating audiences this time not with a powerhouse performance, but with her heartfelt honesty about the future of one of Broadway’s most iconic roles.

Appearing on The View, the 38-year-old actress and singer opened up about the possibility of reprising Elphaba on Broadway and surprised fans with her thoughtful perspective.

After leading the hugely successful Wicked film, Cynthia Erivo admitted that returning to the stage in the same role would now feel “a little selfish.”

She explained that the film adaptation has given the story a global life of its own. “This version has reached everyone,” she shared. “It’s in people’s homes, in cinemas, everywhere. That’s such a rare and beautiful thing.”

Rather than stepping back into the spotlight, Erivo believes the moment should belong to others. She noted that the film’s success has created fresh opportunities for new performers to take on Elphaba on Broadway and make the role their own. “There’s now more room for other women to step in and shine,” she said.

Wicked: For Good, starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba alongside Ariana Grande as Glinda, was released on November 21, 2025, and quickly became a cultural talking point.

Looking ahead, Cynthia Erivo is preparing for yet another bold artistic leap. She is set to star in a one-woman Dracula production in London’s West End, where she will portray 23 different characters.

Despite admitting she feels “petrified,” the star says she’s excited to embrace the challenge proving once again that she thrives on pushing creative limits and surprising her audience.
