Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande sharing the stage again healed something in all of us.
On Sunday, August 16, the former Wicked costars reunited for a surprise performance during night two of Grande’s 10-day residency at London’s O2 Arena as part of her Eternal Sunshine Tour. The next day, Erivo took to her Instagram to pen a heartfelt note for Grande, calling her “my sweet sister” and “my favorite person to sing with.”
“Thank you for inviting me to share your stage, singing 2 songs that represent such a massive part of our lives,” the 39-year-old wrote alongside pictures and fan reactions to the unforgettable night.
The pop stars performed the Wicked track For Good and a mashup of the songs Get Happy and Happy Days are Here Again, originally sung by Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand.
“This is what we do it for, for the love of work and for all the fans,” Erivo continued in her Instagram tribute. “I missed this. We missed this. And I wish I had more words, but to put it simply, I will never forget this night. Like a handprint on my heart,” the message concluded, signed off with, “All my love, Cynthia.”
Touched by the tribute, Grande, 33, wrote in the comments section, “It’ll always come back to this… just as it started. I’m so grateful for this moment & for you… love you always.”
