KARACHI: The Counter Terrorism Department, in collaboration with an intelligence agency, successfully disrupted a terror plot aimed at Karachi’s railway system, leading to the arrest of five suspected terrorists.

DIG CTD Ghulam Azfar Mahesar said the arrested suspects Jhanoor, Ali Jan, Noor Muhammad, Jamak, and Niaz were found in possession of explosives, IEDs, and weapons.

According to officials, the suspects are linked to the banned outfit Baloch Republican Guard, which had claimed responsibility for six explosions in recent months in Shikarpur and Jacobabad, causing partial damage to railway tracks and train bogies.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to multiple attacks, including explosions on railway tracks in Jacobabad and Shikarpur, as well as an assault on the Jaffar Express in Shikarpur on October 7.

Mahesar revealed that the militants received training and explosive materials from Lehri in Balochistan, and used family members as cover to transport explosives.

Authorities have formed teams, in coordination with intelligence agencies, to arrest facilitators and handlers. Officials also alleged that the group was being funded and supported by a neighbouring country.

The DIG added that no major terrorism incident occurred in Sindh in 2025, crediting continuous efforts by CTD, police, and other law enforcement agencies.

He further disclosed that suicide bombers, including female operatives, and up to 2,000 kilograms of explosives linked to the same network had been seized.

DIG CTD Ghulam Azfar Mahesar revealed that militants arrested in recent operations used their families to transport explosives in order to evade detection.

Teams have been formed, in coordination with sensitive agencies, to apprehend facilitators, associates, and handlers linked to the terror network. DIG Mahesar emphasized that there is no doubt the group is being used and funded by a neighbouring country.

He thanked Allah that no major terrorist incident occurred in Sindh in 2025, highlighting the tireless efforts of CTD, police, and other law enforcement agencies, which have been instrumental in curbing terrorism.

DIG Mahesar further disclosed that suicide bombers including female operatives and up to 2,000 kilograms of explosives have been seized.  He added that the same group was responsible for sabotage attacks on railway tracks in both Sindh and Balochistan.
