DHAKA: Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz came under criticism for a controversial run-out during the second One Day International between Pakistan national cricket team and Bangladesh national cricket team in Dhaka.

The unusual incident occurred in the 39th over of Pakistan’s innings. Off-spinner Mehidy Hasan delivered a ball which Mohammad Rizwan defended straight back toward the bowler. The ball struck the bowler’s foot and stopped nearby.

At the non-striker’s end, Salman Ali Agha had stepped out of his crease. Attempting to show sportsmanship, Salman picked up the ball to return it to the bowler.

However, Mehidy Hasan grabbed the ball first and threw it onto the stumps while Salman was still outside his crease.

The decision was referred to the third umpire, who ruled Salman Ali Agha run out.

Salman appeared visibly angry while walking back to the pavilion, while Bangladesh wicketkeeper Litton Das also looked displeased during the moment. Rizwan, along with the umpires and teammates, later calmed the situation.

The video of the controversial run-out quickly went viral on social media, with former cricketers and fans criticizing the Bangladesh captain and calling the act against the spirit of cricket.

Commentating during the match, former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja said that technically the decision was correct but questioned the sportsmanship involved.

“According to the laws of the game he was run out, but from a sporting perspective it is disappointing. He was simply trying to return the ball to the bowler,” Ramiz Raja remarked.

Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez also criticized the Bangladesh captain over the incident.

Earlier in the match, Pakistan were bowled out for 274 in the 48th over, setting a target of 275 runs for Bangladesh in the second ODI of the three-match series.
