China confirms Trump’s visit from May 13 to 15

China has confirmed that US President Donald Trump will visit the country from May 13 to 15 at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.

During the visit, Trump is expected to hold talks with Xi Jinping on important issues including Iran and ongoing trade tensions. The two countries have had disagreements over matters such as trade tariffs, the Middle East conflict, and Taiwan, which China considers part of its territory.

Trump had initially planned to visit earlier this year but delayed the trip to focus on the situation involving Iran. US officials say he will use this visit to push discussions on Iran while also trying to reduce trade tensions between the two sides.

China remains an important buyer of Iranian oil, especially through smaller independent refineries that depend on discounted supplies.

Officials from the United States described the visit as highly significant, saying the president aims to secure beneficial agreements for his country. The trip will include formal events such as a visit to the Temple of Heaven and a state banquet in Beijing.

This will be the first visit by a US president to China since 2017.
