SEOUL: BTS is facing online backlash after a viral throwback clip featuring an Israeli flag on a cake reignited debate among fans and critics.

The resurfaced footage from the group’s appearance on After School Club has sparked discussions over celebrity associations and public responsibility during politically sensitive times.

The clip gained attention after a social media user shared a moment from the programme showing a cake decorated with images of BTS members alongside an Israeli flag. The post quickly spread online, leading to criticism from some users and renewed debate surrounding the group.

The controversy comes amid wider criticism of several public figures and entertainers over their associations with brands and companies linked to Israel during the ongoing Gaza conflict.

Some BTS fans defended the group, arguing that the members did not create the cake or decide how it was presented during the show.

Supporters said the appearance of the flag was not a choice made by BTS and that the group should not be held responsible for production decisions made by the programme.

They called for more context before drawing conclusions, saying the resurfaced clip did not provide evidence of the group’s involvement in the creation or display of the cake.

The viral clip has led to mixed reactions across social media, with some users continuing to criticise BTS while others have supported the group.

The discussion has also renewed broader conversations about celebrity partnerships, public appearances, and how global entertainers are viewed during international conflicts.

As online debate continues, the incident highlights the growing scrutiny faced by international artists over their associations, brand connections, and public image.
