KARACHI: A major breakthrough has been achieved in restoring direct air connectivity between Pakistan and Bangladesh, as Bangladesh’s national carrier, Biman Airlines, has officially announced its flight schedule for Karachi.

According to sources, Biman Airlines’ first direct flight from Dhaka to Karachi will land on January 29, marking the resumption of direct air travel between the two countries after several years.

Initially, the airline will operate two weekly flights on the Dhaka–Karachi route. The last direct flight from Bangladesh to Karachi was operated in 2012.

Biman Airlines has already opened seat bookings for the route, and travel agents report overwhelming demand.

According to industry sources, seats on the initial flights were fully booked within hours of bookings opening, reflecting strong public interest and enthusiasm in both countries over the restoration of direct air travel.

It is worth noting that Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) granted approval for Biman Airlines to operate direct flights to Karachi a few days ago, following government directives.

Additionally, a cargo transportation agreement between Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Biman Airlines was finalized last month, further strengthening aviation and trade ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The resumption of direct flights is expected to enhance people-to-people contacts, boost trade, and improve overall bilateral relations between the two countries.
